Professor Paul Verrell is accused of shoplifting from ShopKo Thursday. From Dnews.com:
Police allege that Paul A. Verrell, 50, an associate professor of biology, was spotted by security staff at the South Grand Avenue store after looking at several sets of earrings and swallowing them, said Police Cmdr. Chris Tennant.

He added that the swallowed earrings were believed to be a mismatched set.

Police arrived on scene shortly after 4 p.m. and contacted Verrell, Tennant said. Verrell allegedly was also wearing a necklace that later was determined to be stolen from the store. He reportedly returned more than $250 worth of stolen jewelry during the investigation.

It is always a wonder why people with good jobs and reputations steal such pretty crap.
