Ever feel like things aren't expensive enough...well, sometimes it
doesn't matter when you're supporting your own. Cougs have a chance to
help students at WSU Tri-Cites by supporting a new "Taste of History:
20 Years of Washington Wines"
From WSU News: RICHLAND, Wash. — The inaugural “A Taste of History: 20 Years of
Washington Wines” offers a rare opportunity to taste two decades of
wines while supporting Washington State University Tri-Cities.
This
exclusive event on July 17 raises funds for scholarships and vineyard
development for the viticulture and enology academic program at WSU
Tri-Cities.
“Taste of History” features a guided tasting of
interesting and exquisite library wines donated by four of the state’s
most established wineries: Chateau Ste. Michelle, Columbia Winery,
Gordon Brothers Cellars and Woodward Canyon Winery. For the list of
specific wines to be served, visit www.tricity.wsu.edu/historyofwine.
“This
unique tasting is a great opportunity to relive the last 20 years of
Washington wine and gain an appreciation for the progress we’ve made —
and truly appreciate the excellence that has always been there,” said
Vicki Gordon of Gordon Brothers Cellars. “It shows me that support for
Washington State University’s very own V & E program is not only
warranted, but long overdue.” Three notable Washington wine experts will be guiding participants through the 20-year vertical: Bob Betz, Master of Wine and co-owner of Betz Family Winery; Andy Perdue, editor of Wine Press Northwest magazine; and Albert Coke Roth III, attorney and international wine judge.
“What a fun experience to taste our first reds made in 1986 and 1987, and to find them still full of fruit and other interesting developments in flavor — like caramel,” Gordon said.
Because of the quantity of historic wines available, seating is limited to 70. Doors open at 5 p.m. The classroom-style tasting starts at 5:30 p.m. and is followed by an elegant reception with the vintners on the Riverview Terrace at WSU Tri-Cities in Richland.
Tickets cost $500 and may be purchased online at www.tricity.wsu.edu/historyofwine or by contacting Ann Philip, WSU Tri-Cities Development and Events Coordinator, at 509-372-7293 or
Event sponsorship packages also are available.
