WSU student Amanda is having a problem with one of her professors, Miyuki Vamadevan (technically her former professor, and the prof is a grad student). It all started in January after Vamadevan, changed the time of a test for Soc 362 (Juvenile Delinquency) which then ended up conflicting with a class Amanda taught, Psych 106. After giving permission to take the test at another time Vamadevan emailed Amanda and said she looked up the university record and saw that Amanda was not enrolled in the class, and that Vamadevan did “not like any kind of dishonesty”. Well it turns out while Amanda teaches the 1 credit Psych 106 (the don’t be dumb about alkee, sex, etc class), she is actually enrolled in Psych 497 (internship). Amanda got quite upset about being called a liar.
How do we know all this? Because Amanda, AKA poshspice, posted it all on her public livejournal Diary of a Frat Girl. For some reason strange Amanda doesn’t list Vamadevan's last name, but lists her first name and initial of her last name (like this (Miyuki V---)), the class she teaches, and posts her picture, um…does Amanda really think readers will not figure out who the prof is?! Lesson here if you post something in public on the internet people will read it.
We most note that we are only hearing Amanda's side of the story, and not Vamadevan. There certainly are professors who have less then stellar behavior and teaching skills. On the other hand we are amazed sometimes at the lack of respect some students give professors. We would not put up with it and we wonder why you profs (we know you read Cougster) put up with it. Profs should spend some time in Dr. Ahn’s class and study how he runs his classroom (though Ahn needs to be more helpful to students during tests…but that post of another time).
Back to the Amanda vs. Vamadevan saga, Amanda ended up dropping out of the Soc 362. She was looking to take it this summer, but guess who is the only one teaching it… Vamadevan and she emailed Amanda about this fact. All this and more is on Dairy of a Frat. We hope that both Amanda and Vamadevan handle the situation with care…we don’t want to see this get nasty...err…nastier.
Update: needless to say the post we refer to is no longer accessible. Update 2: We removed Amanda's last name.
