Course lecture videos online...but from Berkeley not WSU :-(
Written by cougster1

UC Berkeley has put many course lectures online available free for everyone on Google Video. For these course you could watch every lecture for the whole semester. Why is this not being done at WSU? If we did this soon (before every other university does it) we could show the world what WSU has to offer. Let show off our "World Class Face to Face"..online.

Net worse than drinking on grades?

Is the internet worse than drinking when it comes to affecting the academic performance of college students? A new survey from Michigan State University finds:

“that nearly 20 percent of students had withdrawn from a course or had experienced grade problems due to excessive use of the Internet or computer games; this compares to only 8.5 percent who said that drinking problems have the same effect. In addition, the percentage of people with Internet problems is far higher among men than women.”

There certainly are some WSU students who had a couple Fs because of playing World of Warcraft online all day. Here is a link to an article commenting on academic performance and the internet.
WSU students win 2nd and 3rd at National Interior Design Competition

It is always great to see Cougs bringing some glory to WSU.
From wsunews:
SPOKANE, Wash.— Continuing a successful WSU record held since 2002—Washington State University interior design students Kristie Morrison and Susan Schreibe walked away with second and third place respectively in the National Institute for Store Planners (NISP) Student Design Competition.

NISP received a record number of 90 entries from 20 different colleges and universities in a competition in which students were asked to design a children’s clothing retail outlet. In addition to designing the children’s clothing store, students were allotted extra space and were encouraged to explore a unique design in support of the retail project.

Five judges critiqued each project on presentation, originality of concept, degree of development of the design and concept, inclusion of all required elements, lighting and fixtures and practicality of design.

The designs of both WSU students featured the use of light in the space, but in uniquely different ways.

“Kristie’s was beautifully done – an elegant and richly layered project – while mine was a bit more on the playful side, with interactive lighting elements,” said Schreibe.

The use of lighting in Morrison’s second-place design, entitled Mother of Pearl, was intended to beckon customers to various locations throughout the store. The design also featured what Morrison called the “Purity Sanctuary,” which was an area where mothers and children could sample fragrance and color-free skincare products.

Schreibe’s design entitled, “Sõl,” was intended to extend a warm welcome through the interaction of light and space. It was meant to make the child’s shopping experience positive, thus making it positive for those shopping with children.
